Weird Parenting News

Weird Parenting News is back, after our brief sojourn in Florida (where weird things are always happening). This week we’re looking at some strange stories making headlines, from pole-dancing classes for kids to parents smoking weed a little too close to the school gates. Check out these unusual news stories from the world of parenting.

School daze. At an elementary school in Manchester, England, parents received a letter warning them not to smoke pot by the school gates. Apparently, parents were complaining to the administration that “they had seen people smoking joints as they dropped their children off at the school.” Hey, drop-off can be stressful. Read more about this story.

Pole-arizing story. UK TV’s “This Morning” caused quite a controversy with a story about a pole-dancing class for 8-11 year olds. While some moms say the class is great exercise, comparing it to “competitive gymnastics,” others feel it sexualizes young girls and compare it to, well, pole dancing. Learn more here.

No teen girl left behind. To celebrate Valentine’s Day, a 17-year-old student at Sky View High School in Smithfield, Utah, passed out carnations to all 834 girls at his school. He worked various part-time jobs to save up the $450 needed for the purchase. I hope someone at least got him a box of Whitman’s. Read all about it.
